Technology: GeeXboX 1.0 Review (Part 1)
All who know me know of my Linux obsession. But none know of my recent finding of a small, 7mb distro called "GeeXboX". On June 22, 2006 1.0 was released. It featured a huge jump in codac quantities, the introduction of the ability to show DVD menus (although I haven't gotten this to work), the introduction of the ability to play network streams (such as SHOUTcast, WebTV, and RTP/RTSP), and more drivers have been introduced. Finally, metadata can now be viewed on files.
I have been using GeeXboX for about a day on LiveCD, so I'll have more later.
My test computer is:
Pentium III 11ghz
512mb RAM
GeForce 2 MX/400 32mb dedicated
DSL Internet
The developers say that all you need is 64mb RAM and a Pentium II 400mhz, so my computer was adaquite.
